Using the Charting features in Dental4Windows
Update or create new charting, how to chart procedures, charting layers, mixed dentition, child to child mixed chart or adult to mixed chart, delete multiple objects in charting, view document manager in 2D or 3D charting and bind and unbind an item number.
Update / Create New Charting
It is advised that a patient’s chart be updated every check-up so that the chart is current and will reflect patient’s dental history more correctly.
Create New Chart
- Go to Patient Records > Charting (2D/3D) tab
- Charting menu > New Charting
A new date and time will be added with a blank chart in view.

Copy from Previous Chart
Next, the details from the previous chart must be copied over to the current one.
- Still in Patient Records > Charting (2D/3D) tab
- Charting menu > Copy from a Previous Charting > Select appropriate option
- Current cond. to THIS current condition...
- Copies only the charting entered under Current Condition from another chart
- Completed Treat. required to THIS Current condition...
- Copies only the charting marked as completed from another chart, moving it to the Current Condition of this chart
- Incomplete Treat. required to THIS treat. required...
- Copies incomplete charting to this Treatment Required
- Both Current AND Completed Treat to THIS Current Condition...
- Copies both the completed treatment and current charting entries from another chart
- Current, Completed and Incomplete to THIS Chart...
- Copies all three at once, moving completed to current and incomplete to treatment required
- Select the appropriate chart to copy from
- Click OK

How to Chart Procedures
Within the Charting tabs of D4W, charting procedures allows a visual representation of the current state and planned treatment for the patient, whilst linking to a 3D Skull viewer and the Treatment Plan tab to help build comprehensive plans for the patient.
2D Charting
- Go to Patient Records > Charting tab
- Select the surface(s) in either Current Condition or Treatment Required section
- Using the menus or icons, select the procedure to add to the surface(s)

- Shortcuts can be access from the Conditions menu

3D Charting
- Go to Patient Records > 3D Charting tab
- Using the left mouse click, hold down to select the surface(s)
- Using the menus or icons, select the procedure to add to the surface(s)

- Teeth can be rotated as a whole using the control panel
- Individual teeth can be rotated by right clicking on the tooth > Select tooth
- Individual teeth can be presented onscreen by right click on the tooth > One Tooth Mode
