Perio measurement explanation and recording perio measurements.

Perio Measurement Explanation

Recession (FGM): Distance from the CEJ of the tooth, to the beginning of the gum 
Muco-Gingival Junction: Distance from the Recession to the end of the attached gingiva 
 
Pocket Depth: Distance from the Recession to the bottom of the periodontal pocket 
 
CAL (Clinical Attachment Loss)Automatically calculated depending on what is entered in Recession and Pocket measurements 
Furcation: For teeth that have more than one root, indicates the amount of bone loss in between the roots (furca) 
 
Mobility: How loose a tooth is 
 
Bleeding: Amount of bleeding on probing 
  
Suppuration: Denotes the presence of infection (pus) 
 
Plaque: Plaque present
 
Calculus: Calculus present 
 

Recording Perio Measurements

The Perio measurements can either be entered by selecting the corresponding measurement on the right-hand side of the chart, or by the use of the keyboard. If a tooth is missing in 2D/3D charting it may not always show up in Perio Charting as 2D/3D charting do not constantly sync.  



  1. Go to Patient Details > Perio tab
  2. Select the relevant chart from the Date drop list or create a new chart (See link below for further instructions)
  3. Select the Jaw: Upper / Lower
  4. Click in the field to enter a measurement (green box will appear)
  5. Click the relevant measurement on the right of screen

  6. Press the relevant number / symbol on the keyboard
