Understanding 3D Charting Controls and Options

Control Panel

The control panel is located to the left or right (depending on general settings) of the screen and is used to change the rotation and/or position of all teeth. Additional controls will become available when working on an individual tooth.

Rotation - All teeth

The rotation control is located on the left or right (depending on setting) of the Current Condition and Treatment Required screen and is used to rotate all teeth either by surface (B, O, and L) or the Rotation Wheel. If you have selected to ‘Synchronise View’; the Current Condition and Treatment Required will move together.

Position - All teeth

The position of all teeth can be moved by holding down ‘Ctrl’ on the keyboard while moving the mouse in the direction you wish to position the teeth.

The rotation of all teeth can be changed by holding down ‘Shift’ on the keyboard while moving the mouse in the direction you wish to rotate the teeth. You can also zoom in/out by using the mouse scroll wheel.

Right Click Options

The following options are all made available on the right click of a tooth and/or bridge.

  1. Select Tooth
    1. Selected tooth rotation / displacement to be altered.
      1. Right click selected tooth
        This control allows for a tooth to be repositioned.
        This control changes the angle of the selected tooth.
        This control changes the rotation of the selected tooth.
  2. Select Bridge
    1. This option is only available when a bridge is highlighted.
    2. The selected bridges position can be changed by using this option.
    3. You have the option of using the control panel or your mouse to change the rotation and position of individual teeth.           
    4. To exit out of this mode, you can right click on the tooth and select ‘undo selection’ or simply press the ‘x’ on the control panel.

  3. Undo Selection
    1. This option is only available when a tooth, cell or bridge is selected.
  4. Show Connector
    1. With this turned on, you can see the connector between teeth. 
      Without Connector     
      With Connector

  5. One Tooth Mode
    1. The selected tooth will be the only tooth in view
  6. Exit One Tooth
    1. Only available when working in One Tooth Mode
    2. This is used to exit that mode
  7. New Layer
    1. Multiple layers can be added to a tooth
  8. Delete Layer
    1. When layering is present, use to delete a layer
  9. Lower / Upper Layer
    1. When layering is present, use to move between the layers
  10. Toggle Adult/Deciduous
    1. This is only available when on a Mixed Chart. Charting > Show Mixed Chart > Click Yes button or No button on message depending on which view you would like (deciduous or adult) > Right click on tooth > Select ‘Toggle adult/deciduous’
  11. Properties/Delete Items
    1. This option is only available when a tooth is selected
    2. A list of all procedures, conditions and/or notes will be displayed
    3. The user can delete from the list/tooth
  12. Bridge Properties/Delete Items
    1. The option will only be visible when selecting a tooth that is involved in a Bridge, Denture or Pontic
    2. It will display all procedures, conditions and/or notes for all teeth involved

Tooth Surface Explanation

Distal 

The letter [D] is used to describe surface in Treatment Plan and Treatment.
The Distal is situated on the farthest surface from the centre of the mouth.




Mesial

The letter [M] is used to describe surface in Treatment Plan and Treatment.
The Mesial is situated towards the centre/middle surface of the mouth.




Labial

The letter [L] is used to describe surface in Treatment Plan and Treatment.
The Labial is situated on the surface near the lips.


Buccal

The letter [B] is used to describe surface in Treatment Plan and Treatment.
The Buccal is situated towards the surface facing cheeks for premolar and molar teeth only.




Palatal

The letter [P] is used to describe surface in Treatment Plan and Treatment.
The Palatal is situated towards the surface facing the palate. Upper teeth only.




Lingual

The letter [L] is used to describe surface in Treatment Plan and Treatment.
The Lingual is situated towards the surface facing the tongue. Lower teeth only.




Incisal

The letter [I] is used to describe surface in Treatment Plan and Treatment. 
The Incisal is situated on the cutting edge surface.




Occlusal

The letter [O] is used to describe surface in Treatment Plan and Treatment.
The Occlusal is situated on the chewing surface, for premolar and molar teeth only.

Set 3D Charting View Preference

A default view can be set per computer for the 3D Charting tab.



  1. Go to Patient Records > 3D Charting tab
  2. Position the screen using the following options
    1. Tooth/ View Rotation Set
    2. Position of all teeth
    3. Zoom size of teeth
    4. Size of columns for Treatment Plan (if turned on), Document Manager and CMS (if used)
  3. Go to Find/View menu > Save current screen view as default
    1. Click Yes to confirm the default view change

Set 3D Display Options

Once 3D Charting is activated, additional preferences will be available from



  1. Location Setup > General tab > Group: Charting
  2. Patient Records > 3D Charting tab > Charting menu > Set Display Options

Explanation

 Example Image(if required)

Show CPITN Score
Ticked: The CPITN score will be shown in the middle of the screen.
Stepped 3D Chart
Option on how to use the rotation: Live rending or stepped 
Show Surface Border
Ticked: Each surface cell is shown to aid in the selection of surfaces.
Show Hints
Ticked: Above or below each tooth with a procedure, a hint will be shown to help easily identify the procedure.
Show Notes
Ticked: Notes will be visible close to relevant teeth at all times.

Show Notes
Ticked: The Document Manager Module will be shown to the right of the chart.
Show CMS (Media Suitesql (CMS))
Ticked: The CMS Module will be shown to the right of the chart. Only those with CMS will be able to see CMS.

Show Active Chart by Default
Ticked: When entering the Charting Module, the Active Chart will be shown by default.

Show Quadrant Separators
Ticked: Allows users to see guide lines for the quadrants on the chart

Show Treatment Plan/Treatment tab
Option to show Treatment Plan or Treatment or nothing at the bottom on the screen.

Display Controls On
Option to view controls on the left or right of the screen for both Current Condition and Treatment Required.
Picture
The selected image will be shown as the background of the Current Condition and Treatment Required. Image must be saved to the ‘Icons’ folder within the D4W folder.

Colour
Changes the background colour of Current Condition and Treatment Required.

Synchronise View: Current Condition and Treatment Required
Ticked: current condition and treatment required will move together.

Hint text colour
Changes the text colour of all hints.
Notes text colour
Changes the text colour of notes written against the teeth.
Condition text colour
Changes the text colour of conditions.
Notes Background Colour
Changes the colour of the background for all notes.

Layer text colour
Changes the text colour of layers.
Notes font size
Option to increase or decrease text size of notes from 8pt to 16pt.

Hint Background Colour
Changes the background colour of all hints.
Tooth Number Colour
Changes the colour of all tooth numbers.
Hint Font Size
Option to increase or decrease text size of hints from 8pt to 16pt.

Tooth Colour Selection
Changes the colour shown when selecting/dragging mouse over surfaces of a tooth
