MediaSuite: Capture

Listed below is how to setup and manage devices and images and how to capture an image. 

Capture Device Settings

  1. Go to Capture menu > Setup Advanced
  2. Enter the password.
    1. The password is the current date in short format. Example: the password for 21/09/2020 is 210920

  3. In the 'Device Setup' window, find your device and highlight it 
  4. Click Properties

  5. In the Profile window; 
    1. Click Device Settings

  6. In the 'Device Setting Name' window, select your automatic settings       
                                      
  7. Click OK

Device Setup Summary

Before starting to use Mediasuite, devices being used need to be set up in Mediasuite. Example: Intraoral Camera, Scanners. 

  1. Go to Capture menu > Setup (Advanced)

  2. Enter the Password as ddmmyy which is the current date e.g. 24th June 2020 would be 240620       
                                                                            
  3. Click OK
  4. Select one of the following tabs > X-ray/TWAIN, X-Ray / Other, Other / 3D, Video, in the Device Setup dialogue box

  5. In the Device Setup window, click Add
    1. The Profile dialogue will appear; this will now search for your installed devices

    2. Change the icon picture by clicking Change Icon (see below for further instructions)

    3. Select icon required   
                                                                                  
    4. Click OK
  6. If the Automatic Image process setup is required, click Auto Processing
    1. Select your automatic settings within this area. (See 'Mediasuite: Automatic Image Process setup' topic for full details)

  7. Setup the Capture Device Settings 
    1. If the setup is required, click General Settings. (See Mediasuite: Capture Device Settings setup topic above for full details).

Setup Video Capture Module

A video device can be set up through MediaSuite with three different Video Capturing Modes.
  1. Go to Capture menu > Setup (Advanced)

    1. The password is the current date in short format. Example: the password for 21/09/2020 is 210920

    2. Open Video tab and click Add

  2. In the 'Video Device Profile' window:

    1. Add Profile name, Device
    2. Select Media Category from the drop list 
    3. Click Change Icon to select an Icon or Shortcut image. Highlight selection and click OK
    4. Choose a Keyboard Shortcut from the drop list
    5. Click Settings  
  3. In the 'Video Profile Settings' window:

    1. Video Capturing Mode = Mode 3 (allows support for rendering and video compression)
    2. Select from the 3 options in the Video Renderer drop list
      1. VMR7 – added for backwards compatibility
      2. VMR9 – default
      3. EVR – Enhanced quality renderer
    3. Select the desired Video compression from the 'Video Filter' drop-down list
    4. The Video Filters selection depend on the Video codec(s) installed on the specific PC
    5. To Automatically close interface on Power off tick box
    6. Click OK
  4. Back In the Video Device Profile window
    1. Click OK
  5. Back in the Device Setup window
    1. Click OK

Automatic Image Process Setup

To apply filters automatically, for example Sharp or Noise Reduction.
  1. Go to Capture menu > Setup (Advanced)

  2. Enter password
    1. The password is the current date in short format. Example: the password for 21/09/2024 is 210924

  3. In the Device Setup window, find your device and highlight it
  4. Click Properties

  5. In the Profile window:
    1.  Click Auto Processing

  6.  In the Automatic Image Processing window
    1. Select the automatic settings required

    2. Click OK

Setup Foot Pedal

A serial dual foot pedal to capture camera images is integrated into MediaSuite.

To add the foot-pedal interface:

  1. Go to Capture menu > Foot Pedal Setup

  2. Select the device name from the droplist

  3. Usually the dual pedal operates as follows
    1. First Left – Image is frozen
    2. Second Left – Image is saved and the preview goes live
    3. Single Right works only after the First Left – Image is not saved and goes live
  4. Mark the Reverse A/B check box to swap the functions of the left and right pedals as above
  5. Enter the COM Port number (1-127)
  6. Click OK

Change Device Icon

Follow the below instructions to change the icon of a device on the top menu bar of MediaSuite.

  1. Go to Capture menu > Setup Advanced
  2. Enter the password as the date in short form, e.g. 22/01/2020 = 220120

  3. Click OK
  4. Find the device under any of the tabs, select it and click Properties

  5. Click Change Icon ...     
                                                                                                                
  6. Select the new icon, click OK and click OK again
  7. The icon for that device has now been changed

Setup MediaScan

Once the device has been attached and configured to either the network or to via the USB cable, it can be integrate into MediaSuite.

For a network attached device this will need to be done on every PC that will initiate a capture.

For a USB attached device it will only need to done on the PC that the device is attached to the unit.

  1. Go to Capture menu > Setup (Advanced)

  2. Enter the password as ddmmyy which is the current date e.g. 20th June 2024 would be 200624

  3. Select X-Ray/Other sub-tab > Click Add

  4. Select MediaScan in the Device drop down list   
                                                     
  5. Select Intraoral in the Media Category drop down list

  6. Click Change Icon > select the icon that resembles the Mediascan

  7. Click Auto Processing and set up the following: 
                                                  
    Despeckle = 3
    Sharp:
    Power
    = 0.16
    Bound = 13
    Contrast = 11.5
    Gamma = -9.7
                                                                                                                                       
  8. Click OK three times

The device will be added to MediaSuite and can be used to scan images.

Capture an Image with MediaRay Plus 2

The Capture option allows connection to different devices for tooth shooting to the Centaur Media Suite. Once devices are connected to the system, they will be displayed as separate rows in the Capture menu.
  1. Capture and Image:
    1. Capture menu > Select MediaRay+ 2

  2. The MediaRay Plus 2 Capture an Interface appears. The sensor is now ready to accept x-rays.

  3. Once the x-ray capture is finished click Exit on the capture interface and the image processing interface will come up.
    1. Highlight the image to process at the bottom (if multiple images taken at once)
    2. Select from Media Category drop down menu for image taken
    3. Select what tooth or area image is of (e.g. 17 or R. BW1)
    4. Repeat process above for other images (if multiple taken)
    5. Click Process

Video Capture Module - Sirona Dental Unit interface support

When setting up an intra-oral camera within Mediasuite, it is possible to configure the capture to be initiated by a Sirona foot pedal.

The Mediasuite video capture interface will start-up automatically once the camera is taken from the holder and will close once it is placed back in the holder.

  1. Go to Capture menu > Setup (Advanced)
    1. The password is the current date in short format. Example: the password for 21/09/2020 is 210920

    2. Open Video tab
    3. Click Add

  2. In the Video Device Profile window:
    1. Add Profile name, Device
    2. Select Media Category from the drop list 
    3. Ensure you select Sirona from the Dental Unit Support drop list

    4. Click Change Icon to select an Icon or Shortcut image. Highlight selection and click OK

    5. Choose a Keyboard Shortcut from the drop list

    6. Click OK

Capture a Scanned Document

Capture a scanned document in Mediasuite
  1. Capture menu > Select your Scanner name. (Example: Epson XP-200/ME-301)

  2.  The scanning dialogue box will appear. This will look different depending on the scanner installed.
    1. Place your document into the scanner then click Scan
    2. Once the scanning process is 100% complete, close the scanning dialogue box 
  3. Next > Process Output from dialogue box
    1. Select the image of the document you have just scanned
    2. Select the tooth if required
    3. Select the Media Category you wish this image to be saved under
    4. Click Process
